About me and my style of practice
My view of counseling focuses on the individual and a reconnection with the essential self that we all possess.
My theory base (how I view mental health and the counseling practice) combines psychodynamic principles with more cognitive techniques. Simply put, I consider a client's life experience (relationships, career, significant moments) and what they have learned as a result of those experiences. Often these moments of learning and client's beliefs about the world are intertwined with the issue that brings them into counseling. Together we create goals and a plan for reaching those goals.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in good standing in the State of Oregon. I hold a Master's degree in Counselor Education from Portland State University. In addition to my private practice, I work as adjunct faculty at two universities in the Portland area; in the Counselor Education department at Portland State University and in the Higher Education and Student Affairs department at the University of Portland. I am also a clinical supervisor for graduate students and LPC licensure candidates in Oregon. As a responsible member of the counseling community I engage in ongoing continuing education for both counseling and supervision.
Being an artist is another important aspect of my personality. My creative practice impacts the way I engage with the world and with counseling & supervision. I utilize metaphor and visual references throughout the therapeutic process. I believe encouraging creative thought and practice can help client's find solutions when they feel stuck.
